“Cornerstones are highly rigorous and engaging lessons made up of hands-on activities and real world experiences, taught in every grade level and subject area. The goal of the Cornerstones initiative is to ensure that students across the entire district have equal access to a powerful curriculum. As the Cornerstones intern, I helped plan and host the institute where current DCPS teachers edited and wrote Cornerstone lessons. I also had the opportunity to write my own Cornerstone, so next year, every third grade math student in the district will experience my lesson! Now that the institute is over, I’m editing Cornerstones, uploading them to Canvas, and assisting with supply orders. It’s exciting to see how Cornerstones are empowering students and closing the achievement gap!”
